Beating the Stats!

15 10 2009

Maybe I’m just running pretty hot and maybe I’m more lucky than I’ve ever been before. But I certainly never felt so comfortable grinding the 115s as I’m doing recently. My play and especially my game management improved so much that I finally feel ready to make some nice profit regularly. Would be pretty nice to increase the October profit to 5k. I’m up 4k so far and got another week until I’m off for two weeks to enjoy the Cuban life :P

I just played an interesting hand in which I tried one of those nice value raises on the river. But this time it went totally wrong. Not because of the raise itself, but the reading of my oppenents’s intention.

He’s not one of those who just bet 200 in a large pot to make the opponent bluff the river over the top. He seriously was afraid I had him beat. After I raised the river he was thinking for pretty long time and obviously couldn’t see what hand I might have he could beat.
Normally in those spots I’m faced by very big value bets from standard players or by a very tiny bet to induce a bluff from thinking players. His bet was neither the one nor the other. He just bet it as he always has no idea how much to bet. Pretty funny, just a pity I lost such an easy game because of a misread about my opponent’s abilities. But, well, next time I’ll now better…
