Friday Fight Night

27 02 2010

… just finished a pretty sweet session playing a ton of games at 230 and 345. A lovely 3,5k profit for the session makes a total of 11k profit for February now. I definitely don’t wanna complain about bad variance this month anymore. Pretty good moment to take a break for some days.

Almost forgot to tell that I played latouche(..) recently four times in a row – the guy who lost his Sunday Million winnings within one day playing 5,6k HUs. He got lucky catching a 6outer vs me in one match, but didn’t want to play me at 5,6k Heads-Up. He said he was broke…

Gl guys! See you in Berlin,
Chris

Eat the Bear!

26 02 2010

After running veeery bad last weeks I wasn’t in the mood to write news or just-another-bad-beat-story. I had three or four situations where I tilted in games and didn’t play my A-Game recently. But I insta-quit afterwards and I’m very glad that I can say there are “three or four situations in which I tilted” instead of “I tilted in several sessions”. The difference is huge. You can’t play ur best A-Game every time over such a long period, especially when you are 3tabling from time to time. Some months ago I didn’t care much about the times when I played my B-Game and just tried to avoid tilting and not to donate too much money to donks. Today I’m pissed when I feel I don’t play my best A-Game. I take a break afterwards or quit for the day. Hopefully my improvements, especially in game-management, will be measurable very soon as well.
I played a lot of higher games last weeks and ran pretty bad every time I took a shot. At the moment I jump a lot through the limits and play 115s to 570s regularly depending on my mood, the action and my losses/winnings before. Even at 570 there’s almost no reg who plays me anymore (beside those who just sit and don’t care much about opponents). To get respected by the best HU SNG-players you could find feels pretty cool. I don’t have sick stats like they have yet, but they still respect me and my game. I couldn’t imagine that would ever happen.

Here’s the most beautiful hand I played last days at 345 vs a semi-reg highroller:

Recently I played my first 5,6k HU match. Sounds sick? Yes, it is! Sounds like a tilt move? No, it definitely wasn’t!
It’s one week ago since I asked some other regs to stake me at 5,6k vs a CashGame-Pro who was waiting for action. All of the three guys accepted and bought 63% of my action in total. So my own investment was “only” about 2k which I was ready to risk. I was up like 5k for the month and played pretty nice A-Game before. Sure I was thrilled to play at highest limit available, but I didn’t feel scared or something at all. I hate to lose other guys money, but did pretty well to grind the guy down to 1,1k within few minutes in which I 3bet a lot and took the advantage of his very passive play. We had a huge allin 7s vs AK for 2,2k pot which he won and took me and my bakers money just 2 hands later when I got coolered again. Nothing I could do about it, but ugly to lose like that another time taking a shot at higher buyins.
If I would do it again with the same given circumstances? Yeah, I think so. I would definitely play an unexperienced guy at 2k, so it doesn’t make big difference to play 5,6k HU with some investors on the line who know about the +EV.

Before you read on, please have a look at this video. It’s just awesome. I found it at Thomas’ blog and just love it!

After losing the 5,6k and getting coolered in several 345s I was evenish for the month and decided to grind 115s for a while, just to climb the ladder very quick again when I felt rolled and comfortable enough. I was still way behind EV for this month where I had huge losses to take – not even at HU SNGs but at Satellites for EPT Berlin as well (reached Top5 about 8 times and couldn’t get any ticket and finished 3rd in EPT Satellite for EPT Monte Carlo: worth 13,000 Euro). I think my losses in EPT-Satellites are about $1,800 in total. Pretty sick, but it was the only way to have a chance to get a Main-Event ticket. Now, I will just play some side-events or CashGame. I’m not 100% sure about it yet.
After investing lot of money in Satellites I was about evenish for this month. It felt pretty bad to be back to zero after I had have such a beautiful start in the beginning of February. But it’s always the same, variance is like a bear: Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you… ;)

Last night it was my time to eat him. A friend of mine (“Got youread”) asked me if I was interested in playing the $109 turbo and to split the winnings. I had the run of my lifetime. The FinalTable was sickest run of hole cards I can remember. Combined with great play (obv lol) I took the sweet 8,2k down. Now I know how luckbox Jamie Gold felt when he “pwned” the FinalTable of WSOP.
In the end I’m very very glad I played it and that we made “only” a 60-40 deal. Enjoy the 3,2k buddy. I’ m looking forward for partying in Berlin :D

I could increase the winnings a little bit and I’m back to $7,500 now. Not that great considering my start in February, but still pretty nice. Especially cuz I still need some time to get used to playing 345s-570s regularly.
I collected 165k VPPs this year so far. Maybe Supernova Elite is possible? Who knows, who knows… we’ll see :)

News & EPT Berlin

9 02 2010

Recently Dennis won a satellite for the Main Event of EPT Berlin, 2nd to 7th of March, 5,300 Euro buy in. Hopefully I will find the time to be there as well. He definitely need some support from the rail and I would love to visit the event and to play some CashGame. If anybody of you guys gonna be there, please contact me, so that we could meet, play, drink and party while the tourney is running.

Maybe I will play some satellites for EPT-tickets as well. But I’m not sure, yet. The HU SNGs are just way too juicy to stick to another game. I’m jumping through the buyins from $115 (very rarely) to $570 (not regularly), but play 230s and 345s most of the time. I’m doing pretty well in both levels and enjoy the differences between the huge fishbowl at 115s and 230s+. People at $230 buyins and up are way more thinking players compared to the 115s. The difference is almost as huge as $55 to $115 imo.

I’m finished reading “The Poker Mindset” and can just say: Buy it ‘n read it!
I read a lot of poker books so far (about ten approx.), but couldn’t find any written as well as “The Poker Mindset”. Just don’t do the mistake to buy the German translation, cuz it’s full of mistypes. Imagine you are reading very useful stuff about tilt-control, but just start to get on tilt, cuz of so fkn freaking many dumb misspellings!! If I were Thomas I would have def burned the book with so many fkn freaking many dumb misspellings within seconds!!

Talking about tilting? Hum. Reminds me of my great “beat the $11 buyin”-challenge. I haven’t post any update so far. Mostly cuz I haven’t played a lot of them. It’s really hard to motivate myself to play for cents if there’s a fish at $345 who just want to donate some buyins. I have played 64 games at $11 so far, but only could win 41 of them – 64%. Not even close what I was hoping for. Hopefully I will continue the challenge next time without being drunk, tilting or something like that.

My actual overall-stats are very very nice for February so far: I’m already up about 10k and will reach the 100k VPP-milestone very soon for another $200 free bonus. As usual there is not a specific goal to reach this month and I’ll need a lot of time for preparing my exams next weeks as well. So I’ll be fine if I could reach 170k VPP by the end of February. Let’s see how much profit it will be – variance can suck pretty hard sometimes, so it’s useless to say something like “I hope I will reach the $15,000 mark”. Maybe I could reach it, maybe not. Playing good poker is way more important than short-term profit.

Gl guys, hope to see some of you in Berlin!

Sickest Slowroll ever

2 02 2010

I just saw the most disgusting slowroll in livepoker by the German Team at the WorldCup of Poker:

I watched the video at “Tiltkontrolle“  – a pretty good German Blog including a lot of readable PokerStories.

The new Million Dollar CashGame-Season is very nice! I finally found a version in good quality at YouTube. Way better than the PokerTube-Version!

News from $5,600 Heads-Up SNG Donator #1:
He played two more tournies in the meanwhile: Sunday $500 (finishing 1567/1567) and a $665 Satellite (finishing 263/282). Let’s see if he’ll ever return to the tables. No question he’s definitely Life-Tilting. Sad story of a $180,000 winner.

Yesterday evening I played a ton of HU SNGs, didn’t run pretty well, but got saved many times by teampartners in the 4mans. That’s why I’m up already 2k so far. I reset my SharkScope-Stats for the new month, hopefully to get another lovely graph for February.

Weekly $215 HU MTT

1 02 2010

I’d love to tell you a story about my first participation in the weekly $215 HU MTT. The problem is that the story is all about just one hand: Aces full vs quads. End of the story. End of the tourney.

But I definitely don’t wanna complain! January was just great!
Yesterday evening I played a couple of HUs, ran pretty bad almost all the time, but still could finish evenish without tilting.
I started with absolute zero this month, had to cashin, made some lovely k’s in the beginning of January with MTTs and could manage to rebuild a roll playing highstakes HU SNGs.
I made little more than $11,000 this month and collected 51,000 VPP.
